Lydia Brewer

Head Trainer

Hi! My name is Lydia and I am the owner and trainer behind Brewer K-9 Academy. I grew up on a small hobby farm and my love and passion for animals started as soon as I was old enough to hold a leash. I always knew my future would be in working with animals, but it wasn’t until I was faced with the challenge of one of my own dogs that training became a possible career path. I received my Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT) in the spring of 2021 and I have been helping dogs and their families ever since. My training is focused on strengthening the relationship between dogs and their owners to establish clear communication for long lasting results.

Sam

Australian Cattle Dog/Aussie Mix

Sam is my loyal, stoic, and confident boy. He is a mixed breed and my husband and I jokingly say he got the worst traits of both breeds. He’s the oldest of my bunch and the reason I got started in dog training. Sam had dog aggression and reactivity that stemmed from some poor experiences and lack of impulse control. Since he was the first dog I had owned to exhibit these behaviors, I was at a loss of how to help him. When the YouTube videos didn’t pan out, I decided to research some options about training and, with the support of my husband, take the leap to undergo the process of becoming a trainer. Sam was my first demo dog and still occasionally debuts in my lessons and consults, but really just enjoys being my spectator and couch potato.

Maisy

Australian Shepherd

Maisy is my goofy, sweet, and carefree pup. Maisy was the first puppy I raised on my own. While I was not yet a dog trainer, we did everything we knew to set her up for a successful life. However, at about six months old, my husband and I started noticing a change in her behavior. She became fearful, reactive, and stressed. Men and children were big triggers for her, even ones she had known from eight weeks old. Through lots of training, conditioning, and confidence building, she is now one of my main demo dogs. We also compete in agility and disc competitions.

Novel

Border Collie

Novel is the youngest of my pack. She is intelligent, high drive, and energetic. Novel came from a reputable breeder and had the foundations and support my other dogs lacked. Living with her has been a breeze, but she still has her naughty moments and loves to outthink me. She shares the spotlight with Maisy and demos for me, as well as helps train in my lessons. We compete in disc competitions together and are dabbling in dock diving and agility as she gets older.
